To Chamonix and a ride up the mountain.

On Monday we went back into Les Houches for a while, and then a short drive to Chamonix to take the cable car up Mt Blanc. Here are some more pictures from Les Houches.

Not sure if this glacier picture is from Les Houches or along the way to Chamonix.

Saw these para-gliders over Chamonix while we were waiting in line for tickets for the cable car.

Had to wait a while to take the cable car, and we were told to expect at least 2 hrs at the top before we could come back down. There is a mid station at Plan de L'Aiguille at 2317 m (7600 ft), and then another car takes you to Aiguille du midi at 3842 m (12604 ft). Lots of people hike or climb part of the way but we weren’t doing that. Anyway, clouds rolled in and obscured the view, plus it was freezing at the altitude. We were not prepared for that, so we took some pictures and hunkered down while waiting for our trip back down the mountain.

Some hikers going down toward Plan De L'Aiquille. I don't think they are using any ropes. One little slip and.....
Looking down at the clouds.
More shots from Aiguille du midi. I don't know the temperature but it was freakin cold. I think it was 104 in NJ that day.

Look at this crazy climber!

Chamonix below peeking through the clouds.

Keeping warm in the cafeteria.
Heading back down at last! This time we were in the front for both parts of the ride, so we had a great view. They cram about 70 people into the cable car.

Back at Plan De L'Aiguille

Chamonix in view.

Back at Chamonix. A nice toasty 60 degrees. Looking back toward the mountain.
